Thanks so much, Sharla!
And I think you're right -- it's natural that our dreams evolve. There's a saying I've been trying to remember and I can't recall the exact phrasing but it has to do with the difference between gaining knowledge vs. enlightenment. For the first, you add something every day, and for the second you let go of something every day. I think our dreams over the long term might be a little like that -- we need to gain knowledge to achieve them, but once we do, we need to let some things go... ;)

Loved the blog Marilyn, I think it's impossible for our dreams not to evolve. As soon as we attain one dream, we learn of even more wonderful possibilities. It would be hard to say no to some and yet if we want to remain sane we have too. :)

LOL, Florence! Loved your analogy...I'm just wondering, do we ALL get ruby slippers?! 'Cuz I really want a pair of those ;). I think one of the things I appreciate about where things are in the publishing world now is that, while it can be confusing (there's not just one yellow brick road), enough writers have journeyed down the different paths to let us know that many of them will get us to where we want to go. And -- though there will be flying monkeys no matter which direction we head -- we'll have friends walking alongside of us :).

Orly,
I don't have any real-life sisters, so I'm may just have to adopt you and Laura ;). As for questions, ask away. Ask me, ask everyone! The thing is, the industry has shifted so much that the answers to questions I'd asked a decade ago are about as relevant now as VHS players (although, we still have one of those in our basement, LOL). I can tell you -- I still feel like a newbie in the indie-pub world, even after having released several titles. Everyone I know is trying to adjust to the sheer rate of change, but one of the most positive aspects of this is that there's been a LOT of sharing of information between authors as a result. We all need to work together to figure out this new publishing landscape, and I've come to appreciate the candidness of my fellow writers more than ever now!

Yvette,
Thank you!! I'm so glad you found it interesting and I appreciate the tweet, too! As for the journey changing course...yeah, that was definitely my experience. What's the famous saying? There's no constant, except change. :)

Laura,
I know whatever path you take will be the right one for you (and, btw, I would have totally loved having sisters like you & Orly!!), but if you ever want more bread-crumb details on any of the paths I've taken, please just let me know ;).

Thanks so much for this post, Marilyn. Many of us share the dream. Those who have taken that first tentative step on the yellow brick road ... those who have reached the first crossroads and those who have been to Oz and The Emeral City. This series has been a bit of that "horse of a different color" you hear about :)

Oh Marilyn!! Love this. And if Laura is the little sis, I'm the baby sis (although probably not in actual years but we won't go there either) tagging behind and asking a million questions. :-)

As Yvette said, I love that the journey destination kept (and keeps) changing. And with all the changes in the industry, we can explore those detours.

Wow Marilyn, it sounds like I'm your little sister (though I'm probably older-let's not go there.)
I'm just beginning to learn the path you discovered, right down to the no days off in years!
Thanks for the bread crumb trail...don't know if I'll follow it, but it sure is good to know it's there!
