Flashbacks are my friend but that will happen when you go to school so long ago that Led Zeppelin was still onstage. And when you write a memoir called 'The Bogus Buzz.' In fact flashback to the 1960's and 1970's and faster than you can say 'In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida' accompany me as I am drilled by Domincan nuns, enlightened by a hippie father and loved by a grandmother who easily forgave my sins.
Essentially about five boys that escape the constraints of Catholicism and partake of the forbidden fruit of the era. Some of my buddies didn't survive, casualties of breaking such bread.

I'm working on a long fiction piece, avoiding backstory because I wasn't quite sure how to handle it. After too many requests to know more about how my main character's past influences her present, I am jumping in on backstory. Great to have to have some tips from this post!

Great idea to file them away if they don't work out...you never know, that could be material for the future "out takes" on your website :)
