When are we going to meet face-to-face at one of these conferences...? We have a great writers' community in Austin, but I love going to others as well. And I'm about 51 percent extrovert and 49 percent introvert. The extrovert takes over in a roaring way at conferences once I am among my tribe, though. :) We need to make this happen one day, Laura Drake.

It's funny--one of the keynotes in Colorado (I think Kate Moretti?) talked about how the goalposts are always moving. You think something is the holy grail, and then you achieve it, and you want the next goalpost. But that's life, I guess--what keeps us moving forward. As long as we remember to enjoy the steps on the path. Congrats on your first two--a huge accomplishment--and the courage and determination to see them into print. Keep at it. I read this post the other day and found it deeply inspiring: https://writerunboxed.com/2018/09/12/any-means-necessary-a-hybrid-success-story/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+WriterUnboxed+%28Writer+Unboxed%29

What a sweet woman you are, Tiffany, to make that poor woman in the elevator feel more comfortable. I'm a conference goer -- especially since this extrovert moved to a much smaller town where there aren't many other writers. I'm re-energized by them, seeing that others struggle too...I'm not the only one in my office freaking out (about everything).

I couldn't make it in this life without my amazing writer friends. Thanks for the confidence bolster.

Tiffany: Thank you for your excellent examples of the adventures and misadventures that happen along the way to publication, in whatever form. I am a self-published book #1 autoor who is in the final stages of book #2 and struggling to decide if I can sustain the energy necessary to query, search, pester - whatever. If I could be "a solid midlist author" I would think I'd died and gone to heaven.

I loved this, made me tear up. I've experienced all those things. If it weren't for the WD Novel conference last year in CA, I wouldn't have a novel fermenting in my computer right now. A celebrity author took time for me after her book signing to talk to me. I took her advice, and am now in final revision. If I hadn't gone to this writer's conference, I'm not sure this still would have happened. Thank you!

In reply to <a href="https://writersinthestormblog.com/2018/09/you-are-your-golden-ticket/#comment-137121">Laurie Wood</a>.

Thanks for the comment, Laurie. I'm sorry to hear of the difficulties in getting to a conference--I know it can be tough if there isn't one nearby. Any chance you have local writers groups or chapters of national orgs, like RWA or WFWA or MWA or SinC? Or even a NextDoor group, or something through the local bookstore? It's so helpful to have "colleagues" and comrades in this business. Hope you can find something--if nothing else you might look for a good online group. (You can always open up a bottle of red and have a nice virtual "BarCon" with them after the work is done...) ;)
