I struggle with character description in deep POV. After all, I don't describe my mum in my head every time I see her, I only notice if something's changed, so why would my character describe her mum? But at the same time, I'm aware that readers need something to create a visual with. Thanks for the great tips.

In reply to Laura Drake. I think writers (and readers) are definitely split when it comes to the over and under of description . . . and both ways are correct. It's part of style and voice. As writers, we need to do what works for us. And you have great style and voice! I appreciate your "Stephen Kingness."

In reply to Darnell Cureton. Darnell, that whole "first impression" thing was an eye-opener for me. When I started writing my descriptions with that in mind, my character introductions changed for the better.
