You can do this, Kim! I know you can. Look at Laura's comment up at the top...she is speaking to you, Brave Girl. :-)

I think those are wonderful, important thoughts, Julie. The only one who has to be happy in your writing life is you. If your needs change, so too will your career. If the market changes, that will affect your relationship with your writing as well.

The smart writer looks at what IS, rather than deluding themselves about how they wish things could be.

You know I love that Randy Pausch quote. And, my God, was he brave or what? To do that last lecture without breaking down...I don't think I could have done it. Of course, I am a writer, so maybe I could have!

I'm a bit strange in the writer's world. I don't love to write. My career was as an engineer, designing instruments, creating technical drawings and instruction manuals, and training people to use the equipment. Shortly after I was laid off, God called me to write. It's out of line with my technical mind and I'm a total extrovert. But several of your suggestions were very helpful.

There are days I have no desire to sit, alone, staring at a computer screen. You helped me realize that I can plan for that. God called me to write and I have to obey that call but to do so in a way that causes me to hate writing doesn't please him.

My husband and I are retired now and we're beginning to realize some of dreams to travel and spend more time with family and friends. I can reinvent my commitment to writing every day based on this season of my life. God has given me the gift of retirement and the call to write. He has a balance for me if I stay in His will.

Even so, as you said, it is my responsibility to be obedient to Him and to write. I just need to do it without the judgment and guilt I've been dumping on myself.
