Recently I've been thinking about independent publishing so this series will be very helpful. I'm so worried that I wouldn't have the skills for the business side of things but more and more the traditional route seems like the door to an exclusive nightclub and even though I only send my manuscripts into the world dressed to the nines, the manuscripts authored by TV personalities and those already in the publishing industry (agents and publishers) get ushered past the velvet rope while mine shiver in the cold, regretting their choice in shoes.

I usually use and suggest- Developmental, copyedit and then proofreader. I agree the more eyes on it the better. It is sometimes hard for people to understand the different between all of the types of edits, and that it takes different kinds of editors with different skill sets. While I can do different kinds of edits- Developmental ( and its close cousin the line edit) are my favorite.
