It is definitely more work to dig deeper for the emotions than rely on common phrases that skim and summarize emotions. Deep pov needs particularity and specificity to really shine.

I remember an essay by Ursula K. LeGuin, maybe in her collection The Wind's Twelve Quarters, where she makes the point that you won't be there to explain to the reader. The story has to do it all.
