He'll get that look... that well what am I going to do now, look... and it feels so real and so relatable. And then he'll do something crazy and things will... maybe get better.

Some days, that's just a part of my writing process... when the tech malfunctions, I get pulled away from work, whatever. Then I try to think about what can I do to get back on track... and it probably won't work!

Thanks for the suggestion to apply this to the writing. I love it!

I don't use humour as much as I'd like to. I need to find some friends who are really good at off-the-cuff one-liners so I can learn and use it in my writing. lol

Yes. We see the consistency at the end, but in the moment it's a stark surprise. The writing is so good with this character (and I know Johnny Depp has ad libbed a bunch - but the character building in general is amazing.)

He makes us think he's going to abandon someone or something and then he doesn't. Yet, he always justifies that all his decisions and changes of direction are in his own best interest (he's internally consistent while appearing inconsistent.) I try to do that with my own characters, though I'm not certain I achieve the levels of Jack Sparrow.
