What works for me, may not work for you, and vice versa. As long as it work for us and the readers like what they read, that's what's important.

Everything starts and ends with characters in the stories I love to read, but interestingly not for the stories I write. Usually the character comes with "a situation," and the other characters show up to help deal with that situation. They DO tend to just show up, and they do sometimes have qualities of people I've met. Most of the time though, they have what they need to deal with "the situation." I never would have thought about this if not for reading your post, so THANK YOU!

We don't want our readers catching something and saying, "But wait a minut... bank in chapter 3..." LOL Thanks for the comment. God bless your writing.

Nice article, Sharon. I love creating characters as well. In fact we follow similar creation paths. When I read that you document everything about a character, I thought, well duh. Then you said, even minor details "like how they drink their coffee." Head-desk moment. Why haven't I thought of that before? lol. I will from now on, thank you!
