I imagine it can be discouraging, Alicia. But your persistence will get you through.

I know a lot of things I don't have and don't want; but finding what I DO is trickier, especially since illness makes me super slow.

I spent a solid hour last night on it; concluded THAT way probably won't work. Sigh.

Also, I keep looking for people I can pay to share part of the load - but most indie marketers want to do the same high volume/frequent shorter novels model that works so well for some of them. But it's never going to work for me and my particular mainstream niche.

I'll get there - but it gets discouraging to eliminate one more thing each time.

Ellen, understanding your why and how you want to use it is powerful. I hope you find that exercise helpful.

For me, the "why" of writing has been the reason.
For the Charlie Chameleon stories the reason is a type of bibliotherapy--how to cope with childhood issues, written in an amusing fashion.

What I plan to try is intentional improvement. It never occurred to me to take something I've written and try to write it in a different style. This is an interesting challenge!
